EPortfolios!!!

May 31, 2009

EPortfolios require you to gather up work from the start of the year and reflect on your accomplishments as a student at TBA!  EPortfolio requirements will be handed out tomorrow in class.  Unfortunately, I’m having difficulties attaching them to this blog . . .  but I’ll keep trying.  Remember, the combination of your grade on your EPortfolio plus the grade on your Final Exam count for 20% of your grade for the year in English 9!

If you haven’t signed up for your Passage Recitation . . . check the signup sheet and find a time that works for you.  New grades have been posted and include the Passage Selection Sheet grade.  If you have ANY questions about your grades . . . please let me know as soon as possible.  Remember, I’ll be omitting your lowest quiz grade.  If you missed both quizzes and don’t make either one up, you’ll be receiving a grade of “0″.  Don’t let that happen!

Don’t forget to select your passage.  Fill out the selection sheet and get to me by the time I leave today (4:00).  Here it is:  rjhw4selectionsheet

Remember . . . the Passage Selection Sheet is due on Tuesday, May 19th.  Please bring it to my room by 3:00pm.  I will be after school on Tuesday if you need help.  Updated grades have been posted and updated grades will be posted again later this week.  Make sure you complete the assignment for the Substitute Teacher on Tuesday!  Let me know how class on Tuesday goes by posting a quick comment on this Blog before 8:00am on Wednesday, May 20th.  It’s worth extra credit on the last Do Now!!

Your Romeo & Juliet HW #4 involves reciting a short passage from your favorite character.  You are encouraged to try to memorize the passage and to use the original Shakespeare language.  You are also encouraged to complete the recitation in class.  However, you may choose to read the passage (rather than memorize it), you may use the “Easy” version, and you have several options as to where and when you complete your recitation.  Remember, the Passage Selection Sheet is due Tuesday, May 19th.  All of the details can be found right here:  rjhw4

Current grades have been posted on Edline.  Due to my absence today (Thursday), you may hand in makeup work to me this Friday.  Any makeup work handed in to me by Friday will be added into the Gradebook and be reflected in your Term #4 Progress Report.  New grades will be posted on Edline this weekend.  Are you confused?  Bring your questions to class on Friday!!  Remember . . . R&J HW#3 is due in class on Friday, May 8th.  Here’s the assignment one more time:  rj-hw-31

See you tomorrow!!

It’s time to get your grades in order so that your Progess Report is something to be proud of!  On Monday we will take the day to catch up, pass back work, and have some time to begin the new homework which is due this Friday, May 8th.  Here is the new homework:  rj-hw-3  On Tuesday we’ll resume reading Romeo & Juliet with Act 2, Scene 5.  If you’ve had a chance to read this email, send a note back my way (by 8:00am on Monday) and let me know how Friday went without me.  It’s worth 2 extra points on your DO NOW!!

Welcome back from April Vacation!!  We’ll start this week by hearing your dramatic readings of your Prologue rewrites.  We’ll begin our reading of R&J with Act 1, Scene #5 and move on to Act 2.  After looking at last week’s Quiz and the first two R&J homeworks, I’ve decided NOT to assign new homework this week.  I’ll be returning the Quiz which you can take home to finish and return to me by Thursday, April 30th.  You may also make up one missing homework by completing and bringing to me no later than Monday, May 4th.  Extra Credit returns!!  This new Extra Credit assignment is due by 3:00pm on Monday, May 4th!  Here is the Extra Credit:  xtracredit4.27  If you’ve been lucky enough to read this blog entry before Monday at 8:00am, leave me a message and get 2 xtra points on your last Do Now!!

Romeo & Juliet

April 15, 2009

We’ll be watching Act #1 of Romeo & Juliet!  Remember . . . there’s a quiz on Act #1 on Friday.  If you need to reread a section of the play and don’t have your own copy of the play — find a link to the entire play by clicking on Interesting Links.  Let me know what you don’t understand.

Before we all leave for April vacation we’ll be listening to the audio of Romeo & Juliet and reading along.  We’ll make sure we understand the vocabulary, understand exactly what is happening, and can appreciate the emotions and themes involved.  Your homework that was originally due last Friday will be accepted until 3:00pm on Monday, April 13th.  Your new homework is due 3:00pm on Friday, April 17th.  Feel free to use my office hours on Tuesday and Thursday of this week to work on your homework.

Here is your homework:  R&JHW#2
