Hi everyone,

Another snow day — and another . . . unbelievable!  I won’t see you until 2009!  I corrected your OM&M tests, makeup work that you handed in, a Do Now, and an Exit Ticket.  I posted your new grades on Edline — so check them out.  Remember, the Term #2 IP is due January 7th.  Also, you still owe me a 2 paragraph response to one of the 10 questions.  (You can find the 10 questions in my last post.) 

When I see you in 2009 we will straighten all of this out.  For those of you who didn’t take the test on Of Mice and Men — it will have to wait until we return.  Remember to review the 15 vocab words, idioms, the notes on the Great Depression, and make sure you know the facts of the book.

Hi Everyone!!  So . . . the snow day is a reality!  Remember, I’ll be using this homework assignment (omm-hw4) to replace the essay portion of the “Of Mice and Men” Test.  It was originally due last Friday — but I’ll be accepting your best version of this assignment no later than Monday, December 22nd.  It will count as a 40 point Test grade.

There’s a lot to get done before the holiday break.  Here’s a quick outline. 

Tuesday:  Review last week’s 10 Homework questions.

Wednesday:  OM&M Test Part #1.  Multiple choice questions testing your knowledge of the facts in OM&M and the Great Depression, 15 vocab words, 10 idioms, and maybe a surprise or two.

Thursday:  Class Assignment to help you with the Term #2 IP.

Friday:  OM&M Test Part #2.  Write a 3-4 paragraph essay which will be a second draft of your homework question from last week.

HOMEWORK due Monday, December 22nd:  First 3 paragraph diary entry for your Term #2 IP.

Term #2 IP is here and it might actually be fun.  It involves selecting a character, “becoming” that character, and writing 3 diary entries.  All the details are here term2ip  and here  term2ipfaqs.

So . . . you should all know that your Binder and your homework (OM&M HW #4) are due this Friday!!  I’ll be after school on Thursday to help you complete your assignments.  Don’t forget — test next Thursday, December 18th.  Warning notices are headed out on Friday.  Remember . . .  there are still many assignments that will affect your grade for this term.  An “A” can slide to a “C” or lower if you’re not careful.  The good news is that a bad grade can be significantly improved!!  Leave a message and say hello.  See you tomorrow for the film — bring your tissues. 

Your Binder is due on Thursday and must include 7 documents.  (Check out the Binder Requirements sheet in the last entry.)  One of the documents — the assignment that you did with the Substitute teacher the Monday before Thanksgiviing– is not yet available in this Blog.  These 15 words will be on your upcoming test on “Of Mice and Men” so if you haven’t yet completed it — get it done and in your binder ASAP!!  Here it is!  mon1124

We have a lot to do before the Holiday break!  We’ll be watching the film version of “Of Mice and Men”.  We’ll get ready for the test scheduled for Thursday, December 18th.  The best way to be prepared for the test is to have completed all Binder assignments.  Your Binder will be collected this Thursday, December 11th for grading.  The Binder requirements and this week’s homework (due this Friday, December 12th) is a single document and is right here.  binderrequirements  Also, extra credit is back this week and is due Monday, December 15th.  Learn about modern day migrant workers.  extracreditmigrantworker

I was very excited about the improvement in many of your grades when I entered missing work.  HOWEVER, then I reviewed and entered the grades for OM&M HW#2 and MANY of you have a 0 for that assignment.  We’ll be reviewing grades tomorrow.  Remember that Grade Reports are being sent home on Friday.

Unfortunately, your computers will not allow you to access the Studs Terkel audio interviews required to complete OM&M HW#3.  No worries!!  We’ll use class time to complete the assignment.  No new homework this week!

Time to make up missed homework!  You have until Wednesday, December 3rd to bring it in.   New homework is due next Monday, December 8th.  Your new homework requires that you create a short PowerPoint.  You’ll have some class time to work on it . . . In the next 3 weeks we’ll finish up Of Mice and Men, study for a final test on the book, study vocab new and old, and get ready for the next IP (yes . . . it’s here already).
